A nameplate, WARDOUR CASTLE, from the GWR 4073 Castle Class 4-6-0 No 5066 built at Swindon in July 1937 and named after the Wiltshire Castle four miles from Shaftesbury, a ruin in the care of English Heritage usually known as Old Wardour Castle. It was renamed Sir Felix Pole in April 1956 after the former General Manager of the GWR who died three months earlier. A long time Old Oak Common engine, it was withdrawn from there on 1 September 1962 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Great Bridge on 19 December 1962. £8000-12000 |
