Auction Catalogue: Great Central Railwayana, 3 June 2017
Lot 2 |
A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 65786, R. STEPHENSON & Co, 1906, from a North Eastern Railway Class P3, LNER J27 Class, 0-6-0 No 888 which was actually built at Darlington in June 1906 and renumbered 5786 in 1946, becoming BR 65786. A long time North Blyth engine, it was withdrawn from there on 16 April 1962 and cut up at Darlington Works. Although ten J27s were built by Robert Stephenson in 1909, none were built by this company in 1906, so the details on the plate are erroneous, nevertheless an interesting example. Cast brass, 9"x5", cleaned but unpainted. £350-500 |
