Great Central Railwayana Auctions Sale 229, Auction Lot 139 Lot 139
An early 20th century GWR 12" drop case, London made clock in good restored condition. Overall height: 27¼". The case entirely constructed from solid mahogany. Box with chisel base containing a door closed by a shaped brass turn and with two side doors. Front with standard Ivorine number plate marked G.W.R. 1774. Four piece convex moulded dial surround containing a cast brass bezel with integral, silvered sight ring and bevelled glass. Dial written B.R.-W. when sold by the railways, now repainted and written with the standard GWR roundel, marked 1774 on the rear. Hands of blued steel. Chain fusee movement with maintaining power, between rectangular plates with screwed pillars. After taking clock servicing in-house in 1921 the GWR bought clocks direct from London makers notably Stockalls, probably the suppliers of this clock. Complete with pendulum, winding key and notes from a restorer. £1000-1500
