A nameplate, KING LEODEGRANCE, with KING ARTHUR CLASS appendage below, from the London & South Western Railway N15 King Arthur Class 4-6-0 No 739 designed by Robert Urie and named after the father of Queen Guinevere in Arthurian legend. As BR 30739 it was allocated to Eastleigh by January 1948 and later Salisbury and Nine Elms before moving in December 1950 to Bournemouth from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 4 May 1957 and cut up at Eastleigh Works by 18 May. Cast brass, 52¼" long, the front repainted, the back stamped, 739. £8000-9000 |
