A smokebox numberplate, 61037, from the LNER B1 Class 4-6-0 No 1037 built at Darlington, Works No 2017, in November 1947, becoming BR 61037, and named JAIROU after a species of Indian antelope found only on the remote higher steppes of Tibet. Allocated new to Darlington, it soon moved to Stockton, where it spent ten years, and later Haverton Hill, Thornaby and finally back to Darlington from where it was withdrawn on 18 May 1964 and sold for scrap to Hughes Bolckow at Blyth. Repainted. £600-900 |
