A nameplate, LADY OF LYONS, from the GWR 2900 Saint Class 4-6-0 No 2903 built at Swindon in May 1906 and named in April 1907 after Pauline Descharpelles, the heroine of a novel by Bulwer Lytton, and one of only five Saints named after Ladies which survived beyond the early 1930s. It finished its days at Tyseley from where it was withdrawn on 4 November 1949 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 20 May 1950. Ex loco condition. £9000-12000 |
