A 10 inch LB&SCR mahogany roundhead clock used in Horsted Keynes South Signal Box, now Bluebell Railway territory. Overall height: 12¼". One of some three hundred such 10 inch dials supplied by Grimshaw & Baxter of Clerkenwell. This one came in 1882 when both the station and the box were opened; it then cost £1-17-6. Rear of box stamped 663 B. Dial in moderate condition, written 663 with the shadow of BR(S) visible, almost certainly once accompanied by John Walker etc. in typical SR/ BR(S) style since these details appear on the rear of the dial in pencil instructions to a dial writer. Cast brass bezel with integral sight ring. Chain fusee movement between rectangular plates. Complete with pendulum, winder, bottom door key, and copy of entry in SR clock records. £600-900 |
