A late 19th century GNR 8 inch roundhead clock in a mahogany case used in the booking office at Luton Hoo. In good ex-station condition but bearing an unexplained LNWR number plate. Overall height: 10¼". Supplied originally by John Walker. The wire fusee movement held between rectangular plates. Right side of the box bearing a vitreous enamel LNWR number plate marked 2967. The bottom door retains its lock. The dial written L&N.E.R 604 N Stockall, Marples & Co. Ltd. London E.C and the rear marked GNR 604. The cast brass bezel hinge stamped 604. Appears in a GNR clock inventory of 1878 as a Walker clock at New Mill End (became Luton Hoo for NME in 1891). Complete with original pendulum, winder, door key and copy of its entry in LNER clock records. Further notes on line. £400-600 |
