A early 20th century GWR 12 inch dropcase clock in mahogany case of standard design in good restored condition. Probably once at St Germans. Overall height 28".The trunk with incurved base containing door with lock, standard Ivorine plate marked GWR 3196 on the left side and replaced hanging plate stamped GWR. Once marked 1242 A in chalk on the inside of the backboard, now rubbed out. Four piece dial surround marked 1242 A on the underside and containing a replaced bezel with clip-in sight ring. Dial written GWR possibly the original dial writing; with some faults and touching in. Rear of dial marked 1242A in broad black and 3196 in pencil. Hands of typical GWR broad style. Chain fusee movement between rectangular plates scratched 3196 on rear plate. GWR 1242 is recorded as made redundant from St. Germans in 1969. Complete with pendulum, bob scratched 3196, winder and door key. Further notes on line. £800-1200 |
