An LNWR water hydrant plate, E.6.L.P. 13FT 6" TO BE OPENED ONLY WHEN FIRE ENGINE IS PUMPING TO CASTLETHORPE. Cast iron, 18¾"x13¼", in original condition. The water troughs at Castlethorpe were fed from a reservoir behind the water softening tower (still standing); this was topped up via a mains pipe running alongside the line. The Wolverton Works fire engine was used to pump water from the canal into the main and to the reservoir. £200-350 |
