A smokebox numberplate, 90034, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Supply order by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 25281, in December 1943, WD No 77410. It was loaned to the LNER in December 1943 and allocated to Colwick, returned to the WD in January 1945, then ran in Holland for a few months in 1945-6 as NS 4370. On returning to the UK, it was again loaned to the LNER in July 1946 and purchased by them the following December, becoming LNER O7 Class No 3034. It became BR 63034 and 90034 in September 1949. Allocated to New England in July 1946, it remained there for twelve years before moving to Tilbury but was officially unallocated upon withdrawal on 3 September 1962. It was subsequently cut up at Stratford Works. The front repainted. £300-500 |
