A smokebox numberplate, 63705, from a Robinson Great Central Railway design 2-8-0 built by Robert Stephenson & Co, Works No 3733, in October 1918 to Ministry of Munitions order for the Railway Operating Division of the Royal Engineers, ROD No 1649. Loaned to the GWR in December 1919, it became GWR No 3070. On returning to the WD in May 1922, it was stored at Beachley until acquired by the LNER in December 1923 as LNER O4 Class No 6320. Renumbered 3705 in 1946, it became BR 63705. At Cambridge by January 1948 and later March, Doncaster and Gorton before moving in February 1952 to Staveley GC where it spent its final eleven years. Withdrawn from Staveley on 14 April 1963, it was subsequently cut up at Doncaster Works. Ex loco condition. £300-500 |
