A mid-19th century, NER, wall-hanging, longcase clock. Overall height: 56". The stripped pine case with truncated chisel base, front door with lock (no key) and two side doors. One-piece dial surround permanently fixed to the box and containing a replaced pressed brass bezel with clip-in sight ring. 12 inch dial written Reid & Sons Newcastle on Tyne, a regular supplier to the NER. Good quality weight driven deadbeat regulator movement housed between tapered plates. With drive to a slave dial modified to turn 90 degrees and pass through a side door rather than the hole present in the backboard. Seat board present but movement held by feet via the dial screwed into the surround. No indication where it was used. Complete with seconds pendulum with ebony rod and zinc cylindrical bob, rectangular cast iron weight with leading edge curved to conform with the case base and cranked winder. £700-1000 |
