Auction Catalogue: Great Central Railwayana, 3 September 2016
Lot 466 |
A worksplate, HAWTHORN LESLIE, 3138, 1915, from a standard gauge 0-6-0ST, HOLWELL No 14, delivered new on 23 August 1915 to Holwell Iron Co at Buckminster Quarries. The loco was transferred to Glendon Quarries in 1928 but became an early victim of the contraction of the industry. After a full rebuild in 1958 at Corby Works, the locomotive was sent on 17 August 1962 in full working order for scrap to Goodman Brothers at New Bradwell in Buckinghamshire. It remained there until recovered in the mid-1980s as part of an abortive restoration project and, although the loco was taken apart, little restoration was carried out. It returned to the East Midlands on 5 October 2007 and currently resides at the Rocks by Rail Museum at Cottesmore. Cast brass, 13"x8½", the front lightly cleaned. £250-400 |
