An early 20th century GWR drop case clock in good condition and believed to come from Swindon Works. Overall height: 27 5/8 inches. Case of typical GWR, Kays/Skarratt style with incurved base, unusually in oak, bottom door secured by a key-operated lock and bearing an Ivorine plate on the left side marked G.W.R. 3271. Dial surround of standard sectional construction housing a replaced spun bezel with clip-in sight ring. 12 inch dial recently repainted and re-written. Chain fusee movement between rectangular plates with screwed pillars and stamped 945 horizontally on the rear plate. Complete with pendulum, winder, door key and receipts for its purchase from Collector’s Corner in 1986 and work done by Smiths of Derby for the vendor. Further notes on line. £700-1000 |
