A nameplate, CRYNANT GRANGE, from the GWR 6800 Grange Class 4-6-0 No 6861 built at Swindon in February 1939 and named after a Monastic Grange six miles north of Neath, which was attached to the ruined Neath Abbey. At St Philips Marsh by January 1948, its later sheds were Pontypool Road and Oxley with a final ten years at Tyseley from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 16 October 1965 and despatched for scrap to George Cohen at Kettering on 6 December 1965. The plate is in ex loco condition. £6000-8000 |
