A mid to late 19th century LYR drop case clock from Gathurst booking office. Overall height: 17¼" The mahogany box with veneer damage, a small section of the base missing, bottom door replaced, damage to the side door and evidence that it once had ears to the drop. The rear branded L&Y twice, the left side with many pin holes, a common feature of LYR clocks, steel plate stamped 921 on the top and pin holes on the front probably where an LMS oval brass number plate was once fixed. One piece dial surround containing an old spun brass bezel with sight ring now held with solder. 10 inch dial written L.M.S Joyce Whitchurch 9142, a number repeated in the back of the dial and scratched into the movement front plate. Wire fusee movement held between shaped plates with feet. Complete with replaced pendulum, winder and framed receipt for its purchase from Collectors Corner in 1983.
