A worksplate, LONDON NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 4864, DARLINGTON, 1940, from a LNER V2 Class 2-6-2 No 4864 built at Darlington in January 1940. It was renumbered 893 in 1946 and became BR 60893. Apart from a year at Grantham in the late 1950s, it spent all its BR days at New England from where it was withdrawn on 23 September 1962 and entered Doncaster Works for cutting up on 12 December 1962. Fully engraved brass, 13½"x7½", the front polished. One of the few known examples of this style of V2 worksplate displaying the running number. (See also next Lot) £1700-2000 |
