A locomotive headboard, CAMBRIAN COAST EXPRESS, as carried on the Paddington to Aberystwyth and Pwllheli service. This style of headboard was introduced in the Summer of 1953 and carried until superseded by crested headboards in Summer 1958. Cast aluminium, 40½"x18½", the back showing the names of ten other trains which carried the same size headboard, The Flying Scotsman heading the list. The plate has a crack to the left; the railways have fixed a substantial steel backplate to repair it. £3000-4000 |
