A late 19th century GER, 14", mahogany-cased, roundhead clock in good condition. Used in the booking hall at Thetford. Overall height: 17½". The box constructed entirely of solid mahogany with no veneer or glue, the parts screwed in place. Bottom door lock replaced. Standard LNER (GER) number plate marked 3797 inside the side door. Two piece dial surround housing a cast brass bezel with silvered sight ring and fixed to the box with four original pegs. Inner surfaces of the box covered with green baize - a common GER feature. The dial written L.N.E.R. E, some letters stencilled. The rear of the dial marked GER. Attractive spade hands. Chain fusee movement held between rectangular plates and with half-dead escapement. Complete with pendulum, winder, door key and receipts for its purchase from collectors corner and work done for the vendor. £400-600 |
