A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE Co, HYDE PARK WORKS, 24618, 1940, from a Stanier LMS 8F 2-8-0 which was built as their No.8244 and loaned to the War Department. It became WD 318 and then in October 1941 Persian Railways’ 41 117. At the end of the War it was transferred by rail through Iraq and Syria to Egypt where it was renumbered WD 70318. On return to the UK it became BR 48250 in October 1949 and during its career was allocated to Bescot, Northwich, Toton, Speke Junction and Agecroft. Withdrawn in April 1966 and scrapped by Cashmores at Great Bridge. Cast brass, 7¾" diameter, the front lightly cleaned. £150-300 |
