A worksplate, SHARP STEWART, 4152, 1896, from a 3ft 6ins gauge South African Railways Class 7A 4-8-0 No 995, originally Cape Government Railways No 392, one of a batch of eight supplied by Sharp Stewart. The Class was designed by H.M. Beatty, the Cape Government Railways’ Chief Locomotive Superintendent, and was a great success some lasting in service for almost eighty years. They were conceived as heavy goods locomotives and continued the attractive appearance of the Cape's locomotives. Cast brass, 9¾"x6", the front repainted, plenty of service knocks. £200-350 |
